do you believe in the long tail?
I got out of bed early, worked out, did some work, and now I am enjoying a protein shake. Life is good. As for the theme song of the day, I have chosen North American Scum by LCD Soundsystem. Maybe it’s the films I have been watching.. or maybe it’s the election propaganda … but I am definitely feeling this track today. For those of you who don’t feel like rockin’ out — I added Amos Lee. He’s really mellow.

Anyway, about the long tail…

So this guy called Chris Anderson wrote an article in Wired in 2005 about "Long Tail" economics. From what I recall, the article was about DVD’s and film –basically, the revenue stream for even horrible niche films wasn’t based on box office sales, but long term (in this case) rental revenue. He’s writing a book and started a blog, and the saying is up there with ‘wisdom of crowds,’ ‘black swan,’ and ‘hedgehog.’ If you have never heard of any of those phrases, then your life is a lot more exciting than mine.
Here’s a link to the original article, as well as Chris’ blog

Anyway, my point is more that with the inevitable death of IP, where’s the long tail? And if there is no long tail, who is going to pay to produce content? You say advertising… but I am not so sure. I don’t have an answer yet — but hearing people call google the world’s largest advertising firm gives me pause.
And for those of you who REALLY need a P.A. or at least and admin, there’s Sandy the virtual assistant. I’m still have privacy issues w/ something like this…but you may not. Check her out — she’s free.
