i got up early to catch the rest of that new swell (yesterday was super fun), but it’s still a bit blown out…i’m hoping that it’ll be better in a few hours. The funny thing is that it’s 60 degrees outside; and I am freezing. It didn’t take long for my body to adjust …. how did i ever manage winter in the midwest? more to follow - gotta run.
it’s great to be home. the graduation celebrations have been amazing — but now that i am getting back into the so. cal way of living –I have time to catch up with my blog (sorry everyone — I just had to get my schedule back in order). Today’s theme song of the day is "A Message To You Rudy," by The Specials — ska just feels right for a day like today.
yesterday was my last day of class. i spent it listening to Jim Keyes, Blockbuster’s CEO talk about the Blockbuster/Circuit City deal — definitely a great way to end this chapter. i’ll talk about the deal later.
…and now for the painting, packing, sorting and cleaning.
i haven’t picked a theme song for today — i think that i’ll just put my player on shuffle and see what happens. if i come up with one later, i will post it. enjoy your thursday!
I must really be thinking of California .. today’s song of the day is "Amber" by 311. Can’t wait for the mellow drive home. On the plus side, it should be 60 degrees and sunny today — I hope that the ducks are smiling.
Just read a working paper put out by an assistant prof. at HBS. If you don’t read the working knowledge site — perhaps you should. There are a few interesting articles.
Entrepreneurs are, on average, significantly wealthier than people who work in paid employment. The wealthy are also more likely to become entrepreneurs.
Talent matters in entrepreneurship, more so for the less wealthy. The relationship between individual wealth and entrepreneurship in advanced economies is driven at least in part by the fact that wealthy individuals can start lower growth-potential businesses because they do not face the discipline of external finance.
It may be misguided to provide a simple scheme of cheap credit for new ventures, as not all who take up the scheme will be those who really need it.
Can’t write now… have to save my words. Today’s song of the day is "Hello," by Lyrics Born. It’s music like this that keeps me going. Have a great day!
I watched the snow fall on them this morning, saw them clean it from their feathers. They didn’t like it. They certainly didn’t expect it. Who would have? Snow in april after a 71 degree day?! The ducks were bummed — and I was bummed for them. Stay warm guys – winter should be over soon! Just focus on the good times you will have … they are just around the corner.
Here’s a pic of the ducks from a much happier (NOT SNOWING) time:
Today’s song of the day is James Morrison’s "You Give Me Something." It just feels right for today. I hope you like it.
And I have to show you this. It’s javascript-based Super Mario Brothers game. I can’t get the sound to work on my end…but it’s still fun to play. Use your arrows to move Mario. It’s not quite super nes … if you’re like me, you probably have a ton of things to do anyway. Check it out:
There are days when I miss home more than others. Today is one of those days. To combat the cold weather and rain, I have chosen "Banana Pancakes" by Jack Johnson as the theme song of the day. It always reminds me of home. This is a picture of one of my favorite beaches at home. I have seen whales swim right up next to that rock — and spent many an afternoon watching the sea lions play.
Those of you that know me know that Ben Harper is probably my favorite artist, period. So when I decided to make one of his songs the song of the day, I chose very carefully. This one is "I’ll Rise" and it’s taken from the Live from Mars album. I hope that you like it.
It’s my last week here. Managing final exams, papers, apartment asset liquidation, and my training schedule has proven quite challenging. Today’s theme song of the day is one of those songs that quiets my thoughts and chills me out. It’s Alexi Murdoch’s “Song for You.” Give it a listen.
Man, I can’t tell you how much weather affects my life…I am sooooo stoked to wear t-shirts and flip flops again. Today’s theme song of the day is “Frontin,” not the Pharrel and Jay-Z version, but the Jamie Cullum Version. It’s almost cheesy (0r maybe it is — what do I know?), but really fun music that might just make you dance around the house while you watch the ducks swimming. Here’s a live performance…I’ll post a shorter version in the comments. Tons of work/meetings/end of school stuff — Have a great day! Later.
Today’s song of the day is: “The Magic Number,” by De La Soul. Here’s the cartoon that they sampled; and I’ll post a link to the track in the comments section
In the past three days, I have spent more time outdoors than I have all year . . . as such, I don’t have much to say. Ran 5 miles on Friday, Rode 40 miles yesterday, and ran a half marathon this morning. Life is mellow. Today’s theme song of the day is Paolo Nutini’s Alloway Grove. I chose this song because I must have sung it in my head 20 times during the run. It’s a fun song, enjoy.
Lehman Hit by $350 million fraud. “This is an embarrassment that could costs Lehman hundreds of millions of dollars at a time when management is under the microscope. The scam is being blamed on rogue traders within Marubeni. Ouch!”
quote:You know when somebody falls off a motorcycle, and they want to harvest their organs, they’re still alive until they harvest the organs. Right now Bear Stearns, there’s an EKG, it is pinging, they’re technically still alive and JPMorgan is waiting for the healthcare proxy to sign and say they can start harvesting the organs. This is where Bear is right now. They had an expertise.
I’m super busy today, so here is a quick one. I have to tell you that my day started with a smile; and I have carried that smile with me throughout the day. I’m stoked. The only caveat is that I have a lot of work to do and very little time to enjoy the sunshine. I really hope that spring is here. Today’s theme song of the day is “Rainbow” sung by Jack Johnson and G.Love. It fits well with my day and these last few weeks of school. I’ll post a link in the comments section
Here are a few things that I thought might be of interest to you:
And since all of us are moving to new cities after graduation, I pulled this from Richard Florida’s site. “By far, the best places for single men are the large cities and metro areas of the East Coast and Midwest. The extreme is greater New York, where single women outnumber single men by more than 210,000.” At least you’ll know your odds before you move.
It’s April Fool’s Day, and the internet is ripe with trixsters and jokers. I’m feeling pretty retro; so today’s song of the day is "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan.
If you aren’t familiar with RickRolling - it’s when someone puts a link on website to something, but it actually takes you to a music video of Rick Astley’s “hit” song Never Gonna Give You Up.
Side note (and not a joke): For those of you who frequent Panda Express, here is a coupon for free Beijing Beef w/ any combo order (good until April 15,2008
