Nintendo Makes More Per Employee than Google, Goldman Sachs
“For an electronics company to make more per employee than a high-powered investment bank is exceptional, and the figures highlight how profitable Nintendo, a company with less than 3,000 permanent employees, has become after the success of its Wii and DS consoles,” the Financial Times stated. “Before tax and before pay, the average Goldman employee generated $1.24m in profit last year, based on the company’s accounts. But after Nintendo upgraded its earnings forecast recently, the FT estimates each staff member will produce more than $1.6m in profit this year.”
So what’s the secret to Nintendo’s success (besides having products that people love)? Apparently, the key is outsourcing. The manufacturing on the Wii is outsourced and so is development on certain games like Mario Party.
While Nintendo employees are generating a ton of profit for their company, compensation for these workers pales in comparison to those who are employed by Goldman Sachs. The average salary at Nintendo was just $90,900, while Nintendo’s big windfall goes to shareholders. Goldman Sachs employees earned about $660,000 in 2007 – which is roughly half the profit they generated.

has a new album.
and it’s a blank cd-r.

EMI has told Danger Mouse that his latest CD won’t see the light of day due to “legal issues,” so he’s responding by releasing the disc as a blank CD-R in a jewel case with art and liner notes. Fans can just download the music off a P2P site and burn it to the CD-R
You can hear the whole album on NPR’s web site.
But I’m not sure if that’s a good thing — since when did NPR become hip?
Strange.
Anyway, here’s the link to their page.
